Letter from Our New Editor

If you had asked me a year ago if I was interested in doing journalism, there is a chance I would have said no. I wanted to do something where I could take action, and have an influence on how our society deals with the challenges of the time. In the meantime, however, I have come to see the impact journalism has on public opinion, on how we see the world. Libel, while only a small corner in a frenzy of online platforms, is a place where young liberals from across the world can voice their thoughts, engage with each other and read about the fight for a more liberal society in environments that could not be more different from one another. Therefore, it is my pleasure to take up the challenge of ensuring a range of diverse and engaging content is published on a regular basis.

I am a member of the German Junge Liberale (Julis) and completed my BA in English and Political Science at the University of Bonn, Germany. Now, I am working on my master’s dissertation at Trinity College Dublin, where I study International Peace Studies. My interests include conflict resolution, ethnicity, migration and climate change, but what I find truly fascinating, and what led me back to my childhood interest in journalism, is how (political) events are narrated and history is memorized as a result of this in different contexts – hence my commitment to contribute to Libel’s mission of showcasing the world according to liberalism.

Larissa Saar is a member of the German Junge Liberale (JuLis). She attended COP24 in Katowice as a delegate for IFLRY and is currently doing a Master’s in International Peace Studies at Trinity College Dublin. You can contact her via email: larissa.saar@julis.de
